FAQs

Many clients have the same questions about our Mobile Veterinarian Business.  If you do not find the answer to your question below, please give us a call, send us a text or an email.

What services do you offer?

The Happy Pet Vet offers most of the same services as a veterinary practice in a building. If you are unsure if we offer a specific service you can call, text or email us.

Are your mobile veterinary services available outside of the state of Oregon?

In most circumstances no, however, I am allowed a few hours to work in California and I reserve those hours for euthanasia services.

Will I be able to get my Prescriptions from The Happy Pet Vet?

In a word, yes.  I request 24/48 hours notice to refill a prescription. Since I am mobile I am not always in a location to fill a medication right away. Established hours for prescription pick up, after request, are Monday’s from 2pm to 5pm and Friday’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. While many of the medications I use for treatment I have on hand or available for me to get to you, I can also have your prescription(s) filled at a local Pharmacy. Most reoccurring prescriptions I fill through the online pharmacy at https://thehappypetvet.vetsfirstchoice.com/

Do you come to my house to Euthanize?

Yes. I will come to your house to take care of your pet. Euthanasia is $175.00 and cremation prices vary depending on if you want the ashes returned to you or not. You can also have a paw print made.

I live way too far away for the vet to come to me?

Well folks, I was born and raised just outside of Bonanza and in one day have traveled to Chiloquin, Merrill, Beatty, Malin, Keno, & back to Chiloquin. In that order. When possible I try to cluster my appointments into an area because I can better schedule for my clients and there is less wait time. That said, if you live in Klamath County you do not live too far away for us to serve you. For those of you that wish to come see me, I have clinic on Wednesday.

It’s way too expensive to have Dr Shaw come to me!

Well expensive is subjective and yet I’ve done my best to maintain a reasonable fee schedule. A one time home visit is $50 and exam of a single pet is $50 making it $100 for both services. Clients who know that they are going to want multiple visits or who have multiple pets are encouraged to sign up for family pet plans. These plans all include at least two home visits, unlimited exams for all covered pets, and unlimited nail trims for dogs and cats as well as a discount on all other services. They start as low as $27.50/month for a single pet and $55/month for 2-5 pets. Additional discounts are available for pre-paid yearly plans which saves you two full months.

Will you really come to my house when I’m home without it costing more?!?

I have decided to work a business that comes to people’s homes. That means to me I need to be available when most people are home. Thus I try to maintain home visit appointment availability as follows:

  • Wednesdays after 2pm (Wednesday clinic runs 9am – 1pm)
  • Thursdays after 11am
  • Fridays after 4pm (Friday is surgery day, but I do house calls after my patients are all ready to go home)
  • Saturday 11am – 3pm

My workday runs into the evenings, and I consider my standard fee home visit hours to be until 8pm for established clients, or until 5:30pm for new clients. After those hours, if I am available, I still do home visits, but I charge an emergency fee,

The only time you will incur an emergency fee during the established availability times will be if I have to reschedule another appointment and I will tell you so you can choose if you want to pay an extra $100 for service now or wait until my next available appointment.

When am I not available? Generally on Sunday’s, Monday’s & Tuesday’s.

I am not a 24 hour clinic. I have established hours, but I do participate in the after hours emergency services for Klamath Falls, but you will not reach me for an after hours emergency by calling my clinic number. If there is a veterinarian on call you must text the phone number 1-650-231-6235 and type AESCHAT. This is for emergencies only. A triage technician will contact you. You may also use the link https://home.askvet.app/spo/aeschat . I do recommend that you pre-register.

There isn’t a vet in town that will see my “type of pet”.

I have almost 15 years experience as a vet taking care of small animals and the exotic and unusual pets in the Klamath Basin. Pets such as ostrich, snakes, lizards, pocket pets, ferrets, peacocks, kinkajou and many more. Now that I’m mobile I can actually give these pets better service as improper husbandry is often the leading cause of disease and early death in exotic pets.

***Please note that FCC guidelines now require our clinic to have your approval for Dr. Shaw and our staff to initiate a text conversation with you. These texts will only be related to your pet/s that we care for and will not include ads or promotions. So no Spamming. This is a blanket statement regarding texting and you will need to opt out if you do not want to receive appointment or care related texts from our clinic.
